Dosdude El Capitan
Question :
I read somewhere that it is possible to install the latest version of OSX 10.10 Yosemite on my Mac, even though the official installer refuses to install.
Can you give me any directions ?
El Capitan 10.11 (Note: You can only use softwareupdate -ia -background as the -include-config-data option was new in Sierra 10.12) 3. Software Update & MRT Commands. Let’s get right to it, here are the commands again if you want to remediate right now! Check for config data updates: /usr/sbin/softwareupdate -l -include-config-data; 2. This is how to install Mac OS X 10.11 'El Capitan' on an unsupported Mac Pro. In this video, I use a Mac Pro 1,1 (that has been flashed to 2,1 firmware).
Answer :
Installing newer versions of OSX on slightly older Macs that do not meet the official system requirements can be done using MacPostFactor (MCPF).
MacPostFactor also supports installing OSX versions up to OSX 10.10 Yosemite on older Macs. And a new version that supports installing OSX 10.11 El_Capitan is in the works.

or see the (less readable) official page of the MacPostFactor team :
…in short :
!!! THIS IS FOR (RATHER) EXPERIENCED MAC-USERS ONLY, AND SHOULD NOT BE DONE ON YOUR ‘ONE AND ONLY’ MAC !!!
!! REMEMBER : DO FOLLOW THE COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS THAT CAN BE FOUND HERE : MacPost Factor info page on MacRumors.com
…that should be it !

Adobe CC is updating to a new '2019' set, and it will not support El Cap anymore.
Before I move CC over to my spare 2012 Mac Mini or my Win 10 box, I did some searching and found that someone had created a patcher that allowed for High Sierra to install and run on a 2008 3,1:

I'm going to give it a shot at some point soon, since I'd like to get some more service out of this old puppy... at least until Apple decides to make a new Mac Pro I can live with, etc.
Has anyone here done this? I'm specifically interested in how it actually performs vs. a supported OS like El Cap.
I have an SSD for my boot drive, and 32gigs RAM, so pretty much anything I throw at it fro my work is not a problem, aside from some point-heavy Illustrator stuff.
Thanks!
